Oily hair or greasy hair looks lifeless. In this type of hair the oily glands (sebaceous) are over active. But the good thing it can be controlled with simple tips and home remedies.
Oily hair needs frequent washing, so avoid using harsh shampoos. Go for mild shampoo or a baby shampoo to wash your greasy hair. Lemon based shampoo works great for oily hair.
Rinse your hair with cool water as this will help slow down sebum production and retards oiliness of hair and scalp.
Though gently brushing is good for hair, avoid over brushing as it stimulates the already over active oil glands.
Avoid creamy conditioners and gels. If you need to condition your hair, choose a light conditioner and apply it to your mid lengths and ends of hair. Use products or shampoos meant for oily hair.
Keep your combs and hair brushes clean by regularly washing them. Clean them every time after washing your hair.
Avoid fried food in your diet and include lot fresh fruits, vegetables, sprouted cereals and pulses. Also drink enough water.
Home Remedies for Oily hair
Squeeze juice of 1 lemon in a mug of water and use it as a the final rinse for oily hair.
Dilute 3 tbsp of beer in a mug of water and use it for the final rinse to give your hair a healthy shine.
Boil used tea leaves in sufficient water, allow it to cool, then use that liquid as the last rinse.
Hibiscus flowers and leaves are good natural conditioners for the hair. You can grind 2-3 leaves or flowers and use its juice along with your herbal shampoo.
Grind leaves of hibiscus plant, apply the paste to your hair and wash off after 15 minutes. It is a wonderful homemade conditioner for oily hair.
Boil soap nuts skin (reetha or boondi kottai in tamil) in water, cool it and use that liquid as the last rinse for silky hair.
Dry lemon peels in the sun and powder it. Use it along with shikakai to wash your hair.
Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight, grind it to a paste and apply to your hair. Wash it after 20 minutes. This is an effective home treatmentnot only for oily hair but also for dandruff.
Mix Besan+ sour curd to form a paste, use it to wash your hair. It helps to get rid of oily hair.

Dandruff is the problem of the scalp and can be effectively treated with natural home remedies. If not treated, it can lead to other problems like hair loss, pimples and acne, so treat it at the earliest. Find few natural home remedies to cure dandruff below
1.Curd is a very effective home remedy in the treatment of dandruff. Take half a cup of curd/ plain yoghurt and leave it outside for 3 days (i.e. do not refrigerate). Then massage it on your scalp and wash it off after 30 minutes with besan (bengal gram flour) or a mild shampoo.
2.Sour Curd mixed with a few drops of fresh lemon juice is also an effective natural remedy for dandruff. Apply the mixture and wash your hair after 20 minutes .
3.Take pure coconut oil, warm it, add juice of fresh lemon to it and massage your scalp with it. Wash your hair after 30 minutes. Follow it regularly twice a week. Alternatively you can warm coconut oil, apply it to your scalp and leave it overnight. Next morning, apply juice of one lemon and shampoo after an hour. This natural treatment can be followed once or twice a week to get best results.
4.Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Grind it to a paste and apply it on the scalp. After 20 minutes wash it off with shikkakai or herbal shampoo. Follow it once in a week regularly to cure dandruff naturally. This is one of the oldest and most effective remedy in treating dandruff.
5.Dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and apply it on the scalp with cotton wool, wash it off after 20 minutes.
6.Grind white pepper with milk, warm it and apply it on the scalp, then wash it off after 15 minutes. Follow this treatment once in a week to get effective results.
Dandruff cure with Neem
Soak neem leaves in water overnight, filter that water and use it for the final rinse. This will help in controlling dandruff as neem leaves have antiseptic properties.
Heat coconut oil, switch off the gas when the oil starts smoking, then add a few neem flowers to it. Close it and keep it aside. When cooled, filter it and use that oil regularly once in a week. Massage it on your scalp 20 minutes before shampooing. Neem is very effective in dandruff treatment.
Application of neem oil 10 -15 minutes before bath is also an effective natural cure for dandruff.
Beetroot in curing dandruff
Boil beets in a cup of water, cool it, use that concentrated liquid to massage your scalp. It helps clear dandruff.
Alternatively, you can even grate raw beetroot, squeeze it juice, mix it with a little vinegar and massage the scalp with it, using your finger tips. Wash it off after 20 minutes with a mild shampoo.
Mix beetroot juice with a little ginger juice and apply on the scalp for 20 minutes and wash it off. This helps in controlling dandruff.
Do’s and Don’ts
Avoid using creamy hair conditioners, use mild herbal shampoos to wash your hair.
Keep your combs, brushes and pillow covers clean by washing them in an antiseptic solution.
Lastly include fresh fruits, soups, salads, yoghurt and sprouts in your diet and drink 8 glasses of water everyday. Avoid fried foods, spicy foods and sweets as much as possible.
