Dry hair looks dull and lifeless due lack of moisture and oil. It needs plenty of nourishment and care. The causes of dry hair may be due to environment conditions, poor diet, harsh shampoos, presence of chlorine in water used for washing hair, improper care and styling practices, chemical treatments to your hair etc. All you have to do is to take special care of your hair and keep it well moisturized  and nourished.

Excessive shampooing will strip the hair of its natural moisture and makes it dry. Before shampooing your hair, apply natural oil like coconut oil, olive oil or avocado to your hair, leave it for 15 -20 minute and then wash with a mild shampoo. Avoid shampooing often.

A good moisturizing shampoo helps to combat dry hair.

Use creamy conditioners, apply it on your hair, leave it for 2 minutes and rinse your hair well. Use cool water to rinse your hair.

Warm oil massage helps to combat dryness of hair. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo after an hour.

Do’s and don’ts

It is advisable to avoid treatments like bleaching, coloring, perming, straightening as far as possible as they make the hair brittle and weak.

Also, the heat from hair dryers, curling iron dries the hair further. Hair spray also aggravates dryness of hair. So avoid or limit using these products.

Wear a hat while you are outdoors to protect your hair from the heat of the sun as exposure to strong sunlight can dry your hair further.

Wear a swimming cap while swimming to protect your hair from chlorinated water.

Trim your hair regularly to get rid of split ends.

Drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated and include a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, greens, safflower oil, nuts, sprouts and beans . Also see to it that you have a good protein intake. Lastly maintain a healthy lifestyle.
